James E. Trevathan

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

As executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) for Waste Management since July of 2012, James (Jim) Trevathan has responsibility for all field operations, the sales and marketing organization, the strategic and national account organization, local business development/acquisition activities, and the price management organization. He is a member of the Company’s senior leadership team and reports to Jim Fish, president and chief executive officer.

Prior to his role as COO, Trevathan served as executive vice president of field support, charged with integrating field operations, sales and marketing, and human resource initiatives to drive progress toward the company’s growth and customer service goals. Before this, he served as senior vice president of WM’s southern group out of Atlanta from 2007 to 2010, and as senior vice president of WM’s eastern group out of Philadelphia from 2004 to 2007.

He began his career with Waste Management in 1979 holding sales, marketing, and operating roles across North America. Before joining the company, he worked for Stauffer Chemical Company in Houston. Trevathan earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston
