Mark Schwartz Appointed Senior Vice President, People, for Waste Management

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 10, 2012-- Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WM) today announced the appointment of Mark Schwartz as Senior Vice President, People. As such, he will be responsible for leading and directing the human resources organization to help the company achieve its transformational growth goals to know and better serve customers, extract more value from waste, and optimize its operations. Schwartz joins the company's senior leadership team and reports to Jim Trevathan, Executive Vice President, Growth, Innovation and Field Support.

An accomplished employment and labor law lawyer, Schwartz joined Waste Management in 2000 from the Houston office of the national labor law firm Littler Mendelson. He has since served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel responsible for the company's employment law, labor relations and ERISA law obligations. Schwartz graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University and cum laude from Baylor University School of Law.
