HOUSTON and EMERYVILLE, Calif., May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

Waste Management (NYSE: WM) and Cartridge World Group Holdings Pty Ltd and Cartridge World North America, LLC (CW) today launched a new recycling program to increase the collection of used printer cartridges and the sale of remanufactured cartridges. The program, called "Recycle-2-Save(TM)," offers businesses free recycling of their used printer cartridges and the opportunity to purchase replacement inventory for less than the cost of new cartridges.

Under the collaboration, WM LampTracker, Inc., a subsidiary of Waste Management, will provide free recycling services for used ink and toner cartridges. Free recycling boxes are available by logging onto www.wmlamptracker.com and clicking on "Cartridge Recycling" under the Products drop-down menu. Approximately 350 million printer cartridges are discarded annually. Many can be remanufactured to perform as well as original cartridges, preserving valuable natural resources during the manufacturing process. Those cartridges that cannot be remanufactured are shredded and recycled.

Remanufactured cartridges typically cost 20-40% less than original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) cartridges. Through a co-branded site, Amazon.com/PrintClub, WM customers and employees are able to save hundreds if not thousands of dollars each year on their printing supplies.

"This is a win-win for customers that choose to take advantage of this program," said Matt Coz, vice president Product Recovery Group, Waste Management. "Not only can customers recycle their used ink and toner cartridges in an environmentally responsible way for free, they can also buy the replacement supplies for their business's needs at a substantial discount over new non-recycled cartridges. That is a GREEN story that every business, large and small, would love to take advantage of."

"We know from our own research that the cost buying and replacing printer cartridges is a big concern of businesses and consumers. We offer a money-saving solution and our collaboration with Waste Management creates an easy way for customers to recycle their ink cartridges." said Tom Fricke, chief executive officer, Cartridge World.

This program complements Waste Management's industry-leading recycling operations. It also helps Waste Management meet one of its sustainability goals of tripling the amount of recyclables it processes by 2020.
