Funds to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, aiding
victims of natural disasters
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun. 5, 2013--
Waste Management (NYSE: WM) has announced a $50,000 contribution to the
American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support its efforts in
response to the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas, and to serve as
aid for any future recoveries. Following the most recent storms, Waste
Management was among the first on the ground to aid in the recovery.
“These tragic events have impacted thousands of people – many who are
Waste Management customers, community partners and several of our own
employees,” stated Lisa Doughty, community relations manager for Waste
Management’s Texas and Oklahoma region. “Our Employee Assistance Fund
provides support for employees and their families during times of
disaster, but often other resources are needed and the American Red
Cross has always been instrumental in coming through during times of
crisis.”
Working closely with the American Red Cross, the company delivered waste
collection bins to Red Cross base camps to assist with the cleanup.
Collection drivers were also dispatched from outside the area to provide
additional manpower. The company knows that their donation to the
American Red Cross will help many rebuild and restore their lives after
such tragic events, Doughty said.
In addition, Waste Management associates are continuing to collect vital
materials that have been requested by local charities to support storm
victims and are also volunteering their time and energy to restore some
of the hardest-hit areas, including elementary schools in Moore and
Oklahoma City.
